Education Goes A Long Way Toward Prevention

At the Addiction Alliance of Georgia, we’re preparing a workforce of medical doctors, psychologists, nurses, public health, and other personnel in Georgia to be equipped with knowledge, skills, and abilities to address substance use disorder in Georgia. With the expertise of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation and Emory Healthcare’s world-renown leadership in public health, medical education and professional training, we are helping more communities throughout Georgia overcome the problems of substance use.

Strengthening Addiction Education in Georgia

Our aim is to endow ALL healthcare workers with the ability to address addiction. We want to ensure that all Georgians with a substance use disorder are connected to the resources they need and are given the best chance to recover.    

Programs For Professionals And Medical Students

Georgia Medical Immersion Program
Addiction Immersion Program

In collaboration with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, the Addiction Alliance of Georgia has developed a 5-day Substance Use Disorder Treatment Immersion Program for medical, nursing, public health, psychology, and social services students.

    • Conducting addiction workshops for a wide range of professionals
    • Establishing and maintaining addiction-focused telementoring technology
    • Funding intensive residencies and summer training for 400 providers in the first five years
    • Funding naloxone training for emergency treatment of suspected opioid overdose
    • Hiring dedicated education and outreach staff

    As we grow, our education and training programs will greatly improve health and well-being for people throughout Georgia, with addiction education programs that will:

    • Address the spike in drug-related harm caused by the COVID-19 pandemic
    • Encourage collaboration with communities to create tailored solutions
    • Expand upstream efforts to prevent addiction at early stages
    • Increase the use of evidence-based addiction care, such as medications to treat opioid use disorder
    • Reduce the stigma associated with addiction and other drug-related harms
